A great Christmas present!

After 5 years of hard work and numerous revisions, a planning approval has been granted for a new dementia care home for Abbeyfield Loughborough in the Ashby Road Conservation Area. The new development will provide much needed specialised care for the growing community of people living with dementia related illnesses in the area.

The new care home will replace Abbeyfield's disused assisted living home to increase the number of total beds for dementia patients to 64.

The scheme uses a theme of contrasting historical references against modern elements to avoid the derivative and pastiche. The use of historic references in brick detailing is contrasted by the more modern elements of design that step forward in an unashamed contemporary form. Brick freezes and panels are incorporated utilising, where possible, reclaimed brick from the original house. The perception of the building scale and mass is modulated by orchestrating the elevation to Ashby Road to reflect the scale of the surrounding area.
